The United Sons Of Toil, Canyons Of Static, and King's Horses at Project Lodge
West Bend, Wis., instrumentalists Canyons Of Static grasp not just the space post-rock provides for long, lofty compositions, but also all the sonic luxuries it allows for if a band just takes enough care. Keyboardist Aggie Severson both deepens and draws some focus away from husband Ross Severson's guitars on the 2008 album The Disappearance, all in step with a tastefully stormy rhythm section. Madison math-rockers The United Sons Of Toil bring this show to a nastier but still epic finish, rolling out more songs due for their in-the-works third album. Fans of the noisier stuff don’t want to miss out on Milwaukee band King’s Horses’ squalling guitars and loud-quiet-loud dynamics, which recall mid-’90s indie-rock titans like Polvo and Archers Of Loaf.
