Vetiver and Jaill at High Noon Saloon
Vetiver doesn’t skew as strange as Devendra Banhart or Joanna Newsom, but ties among the three remain strong. Bandleader Andy Cabic has played and worked with them, and both have returned the favor a few times over. But Vetiver is simpler and more approachable. The group’s terrific 2006 album, To Find Me Gone, wandered through comely melodies hung on sturdy acoustic hooks. The band's latest, 2009's Tight Knit, marked its Sub Pop debut. Milwaukee band Jaill's 2009 album, There’s No Sky (Oh My My), moves quickly through 12 likeably buzzy little tracks of old-timey rock 'n' roll that sound like they were made by hand over cold pizza and burned-out blunts. Jaill recently signed to Sub Pop, necessitating the addition of an extra "L" to its name.
