The Weakerthans and Rock Plaza Central at High Noon Saloon

The Weakerthans frontman John K. Samson may have left politi-punk band Propagandhi to pursue a much gentler sound starting with 1997's debut Fallow, but his wordy, barbed, and sweetly plainspoken lyrics have their own kind of clout. The band hasn't put anything out since 2007’s Reunion Tour, but longtime fans can rest assured that this show won’t seem redundant. Openers Rock Plaza Central are also much more eccentric and meaty than they might seem at first: The Toronto band’s 2009 release ...At The Moment Of Our Most Needing is in the same vein: Lyrically inspired by William Faulkner’s Light In August, it combines old-school country-rock and high-concept themes like a meeting of The Decemberists and Wilco. For a chance to win a pair of tickets to this show, email rsvpmadison@avclub.com with "Weakerthans" in the subject line.
