White Rabbits at High Noon Saloon
With surf guitars, apocalyptic vocals, and tropicalia flourishes, White Rabbits’ 2007 debut, Fort Nightly, hit New York indie rock’s sweet spot more surely than any act since The Walkmen or even The Strokes. Where The Walkmen wander toward barrelhouse blues, however, White Rabbits double up on singers and drummers and add hints of calypso and ska. They’re also always up for rock dramatics, as evidenced by 2009’s It’s Frightening, the Britt Daniel-produced bête noire that marked the Rabbits’ rapid ascension to major players. The band recently announced the completion of recording and mixing on a new album, so be prepared for new songs to fall in with the old.
