The video for Yelawolf’s “Pop The Trunk,” off his self-released Trunk Muzik mix-tape, sort of looks as if the setting and meth-dealing characters ofWinter’s Bone got airlifted into a Geto Boys video. It’s a rural mirror of hypermasculine, urban gangster rap—the same exaggerated violence and poverty, but with meth instead of crack, trailers instead of projects, deer carcasses swinging in the background, and a shotgunned-down body lying on leaves instead of pavement. Comparisons have been made between Yelawolf and his record-label boss Eminem, which ultimately ring hollow, as the two rappers are about as alike as city mouse and country mouse. Radioactive, Yelawolf’s full-length major-label debut, is scheduled to drop in late November. After a string rumored guest stars, the LP features collaborations with Diplo, Outkast, The Cool Kids, and Mr. Slim Shady himself.
