Yes Men Fix The World at Willy Street Co-Op
The second documentary about activists Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno's quest to trip up globalization via elaborate, risky hoaxes, 2009's Yes Men Fix The World at times falls prey to the gimmicks and smugness of the Michael Moore documentaries that helped clear a path for it. Better known as the Yes Men, the two pull off a lot that's brilliant and hysterical, passing themselves off as representatives of the World Trade Organization and inventing the Halliburton Survivaball, a sort of giant sumo-suit in which rich executives can ride out natural disasters. While there's no discounting the Yes Men's ingenuity at preaching through pranks, the film's presentation too often makes it go down like a self-aggrandizing infomercial.
