You And Yourn gently but firmly eschews the label of indie singer-songwriter, preferring instead to be pegged as “lyrically driven, atmospheric chamber-folk." The husband-and-wife duo Nic and Heather Dillon do a fair amount to legitimately earn either genre stamp, with wistful, sorrowful melodies strummed out on a lone acoustic guitar by Nic, and Heather’s multilayered instrumentation contributing a hazy thickness. On record, songs like the lovely “Sensible Conclusions” from last year’s It Would Make Things Worse benefit from ghostly echo effects on the piano and eerie tape hiss, casting a spectral glow over the Dillon’s loosely sung harmonies.
