The words "quaint," "authentic," or "hip" might come into play at some Madison-area bars, but not The Bean. With its worn wood beams, projection television screens, and a giant buffalo head staring into the eyes of bar patrons, this Southwest Side watering hole lingers somewhere between suburban and mullet. Style aside, the Bean has no trouble drawing enthusiastic crowds of all ages or a hodgepodge of local and national bands. (Past diversions have also included midget wrestling.) The Bean serves chicken, ribs, and pastas, but it is better known for happy-hour specials.
