The Come Back In’s claim to fame, besides its hearty mix of German cuisine and bar food, is that it serves life-sized “boots” of beer. This Madison tradition requires passing the boot (often filled with a strong German weiss) around the table until one lucky person can chug down to the last drop. Fortify your tolerance beforehand with a platter of “sizzlers”—mini hamburgers or chicken, jerk pork, and steak mini sandwiches—or the German sausage combo of veal and pork weisswurst and beef and pork knockwurst, served with french fries and of course, sauerkraut. There’s also a number of American dishes like a steak sandwich and patty melt.
