Despite its quirky veneer, Mother Fool’s is inviting even to non-vegans and non-hippies. That said, all the food is vegan, including soups like dill dahl and groundnut stew and a lot of generously sized cookies (the cranberry-orange is a favorite). The full espresso menu is not vegan, however, which means your latte can have its milk, unless you prefer soy. With its mismatched furniture and work from local artists, it’s obvious why Mother Fool’s is a centerpiece of Madison’s most eccentric neighborhood.
