Like a phoenix, Talula rises out of the smoking pink burn-hole left behind by the ill-fated Mexicali Rose. And while it’s still a garish beacon from the road, the interior’s been spruced up nicely and all the crusty queso stains wiped clean. What’s left is a contemporary American bistro serving up dishes that range from a classic bacon cheeseburger to cioppino (tomato-based fisherman’s stew filled with salmon, mussels, and shrimp). With six salads to choose from, and everything from buffalo wings to artichoke crostini, Talula’s wide-ranging menu doesn’t offer a ton of adventure, but will likely have something to satisfy nearly everyone.
