Today Summerfest announced two more
Marcus Amphitheater headliners: Baby boomer faves Chicago and
Earth, Wind, And Fire will play together June 30, and schlocky pop-rockers
The Fray and
Jack’s Mannequin perform July 4. (Check
Summerfest’s website for ticket information.) That’s right, we said these are
Marcus Amphitheater headliners, not owners of the 10 p.m. slot at the Mountain Dew Rock stage. This brings the Marcus Amphitheater announcements up to six; already announced are
Bon Jovi June 25,
George Strait June 29,
No Doubt July 2, and
Kenny Chesney July 3. As you can see, all the genres are covered: classic rock, country, classic alternative rock, some more classic rock, and some more country. What more could you possibly want?
Look, it’s possible that Summerfest will blow our fucking socks off with its next five Marcus headliners, but who are we kidding? Some time in the next few weeks we’ll probably hear that
John Mellencamp,
Tom Petty,
BoDeans, and/or
Steve Miller have been added to the bill. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with loading up with classic rock and country acts.
Decider understands that Summerfest is only going with what’s popular with the beer-drinking and fried-food-on-a-stick-munchin’ masses. (And, honestly, we’re praying that REO Speedwagon and Styx get booked again, because we’re getting drunk as shit for that.)
