Atomic Records staying open "at the very least" through February
The almost-defunct record store is still selling off inventory
Milwaukee music fans have had some time to absorb the closing of Atomic Records, which was announced in December, and now it looks like we'll be able to shop for a few more weeks than expected. According to an email sent Monday night to Atomic's mailing list, the store will stay open until "sometime in March." Originally, the plan was to close up on or around Feb. 21 because the store's lease is up at the end of this month. But since the landlord doesn't have a tenant ready to take over the space—times are tough for everybody, after all—Atomic has been granted a reprieve to say open and continue selling off its highly collective and endlessly awesome stock.
Fans of Atomic will be able to celebrate the store Feb. 14 at the Atomic Valentine concert at Miramar Theatre featuring a mess of classic Milwaukee bands, past and present, including Liquid Pink, Boy Dirt Car, Sometime Sweet Susan, The Lovelies, Cherry Cake, The Etiquette, The Blowtorch, The Mighty Deerlick, and Mark Waldoch And His Good Grief.
