Bassist from Latest Flames Records’ Waxeater suffers severe electric shock during Austin gig
Details remains spotty, but The A.V. Club was informed earlier this afternoon that Elliott Turton, bassist for Bloomington, Indiana-based punk trio Waxeater, was electrocuted while performing at Beerland last night. According to an e-mail from the band’s record label, Milwaukee’s Latest Flame Records, Turton received a strong electric shock from an unknown source during the band’s second song. The shock stopped Turton’s heart, but as label owner Dan Hanke writes, two off-duty nurses “revived Elliott or managed to get his heart going again.” Paramedics arrived within minutes, and took Turton to Breckenridge Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
In another e-mail, Turton’s bandmate Rob Montage tells us that Turton’s parents have requested the band stay “media silent until they know more.”
The A.V. Club reached out to Beerland for comment, but has yet to hear back.
We’ll continue to follow this story through the next few days; we’re also keeping our eyes and ears open with regard to any support efforts for Turton. And, naturally, we’re hoping he’s on the way to a speedy recovery.
