Bastille Days stretches definition of "French" to include mass gorging

Of all the questionably French events scheduled for Bastille Days over the next few days, the strangest (and therefore most enticing) has to be the Freaky Fast Sandwich Making And Eating Contest, which takes place at 6:15 Friday and pits competitive eaters against employees of sandwich restaurant chain Jimmy John’s. The contest will feature three of the top 10 world class Major League Eaters—yes, there really is such a thing as a “Major League Eater”—who will try eating the sandwiches faster than they can be whipped up. The eating team will get a little help from a local amateur competitive eater—though in Milwaukee, "competitive eating" is synonomous with "dinner."

Of course it makes perfect sense that this is taking place at Bastille Days, because there is nothing more French than stuffing an entire sandwich in your mouth and swallowing it without chewing. To tide you over until the contest, here's video of Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti and Hall "Hoover" Hunt breaking the world record for fastest pizza consumption. Bertoletti and Hunt are two of Friday's competitors. (The third is Tim “Gravy” Brown.)
