Beady Eye returns to North America, has more balls than Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
When is Oasis not Oasis? When brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher splinter off and form two competing projects that sound strikingly similar to Oasis, that’s when. In the case of Liam, that group is Beady Eye, which released its debut album, Different Gear Still Speeding, earlier this year; in the case of Noel, it’s Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, who released their self-titled debut earlier this month. And in news that should come as a surprise to exactly no one, the two camps have been taking pot shots at each other. Well, at least Beady Eye has: In a recent interview with The Daily Telegraph, Liam Gallagher claims his brother’s High Flying Birds are okay, but have “No balls, though. No attitude. Everyone knows what Noel Gallagher can do, and it’s great, but it’s boring. I’ve heard it all before.”
Questions of balls aside, Beady Eye has a string of North American shows lined up (including a stop at The Rave Dec. 6) that will give fans a chance to check out the band up close and in person. Just don’t mention the High Flying Birds’ No. 1 spot on the U.K. album charts (Beady Eye came in at a lowly No. 3)—Liam has already spoken about that: “Being number one is not all it’s cracked up to be. [...] I’d much rather be number three.”
