Blockbuster closing several Milwaukee locations by January
Stores on Farwell and in South Milwaukee among the doomed

Milwaukee will lose at least three Blockbusters—and maybe more—as part of the company’s mass shuttering of nearly 1,000 stores nationwide, leaving more empty retail spaces dotting the landscape. That might look dismal on the surface, but really—will anyone shed a tear over losing the movie rental behemouth, except maybe a few employees? (Certainly, the guy who stabbed himself to get out of a shift at Blockbuster won’t.) The longtime video-rental giant simply failed to keep pace with the times—Netflix has been around since 1997, while Blockbuster Online only launched in 2004. Mix that with its refusal to carry NC-17 films in stores, costly fees, and watered-down offerings, and you have a recipe for a big old “who cares.” Adios, Blockbuster!
