Just Announced Brian Jonestown Massacre and Dan Deacon at Turner Hall

Two brilliant weirdos are headed our way for two brilliantly weird shows

Dan Deacon

More Just Announced

Milwaukee's spring concert schedule continues to grow with two announcements from Turner Hall: Brian Jonestown Massacre will perform at the downtown theater on March 27, and Dan Deacon will be there May 5. Brian Jonestown Massacre's greatest calling card remains the massively entertaining 2004 documentary Dig!, which centered on the obnoxious antics of the band's plain crazy leader Anton Newcombe. Dig! has been a blessing and a curse for BJM in the years since, raising the neo-psychedelic band's profile tremendously while also obscuring Newcombe's genuine (if somewhat samey) musical achievements. Expect rabble-rousers to stir up shit by heckling Newcombe all night, which may end up bringing out the best (or possibly the worst) in the notoriously erratic performer. Tickets are $17 and go on sale at noon Friday at the Pabst and Riverside box offices.
Deacon, who makes an electronic racket that falls somewhere between art-punk and cartoon music, is coming to town with Future Islands and Teeth Mountain as openers. The dates were announced by Deacon's publicist and aren't on the Turner Hall website yet, so there's no ticket information available yet. Live, Deacon dons taped-up glasses and Tweety Bird shirts as he sinuously conducts, dances to, and croons along with his music-spitting contraptions. Prepare yourself with this clip:
