Brother, can you spare $15,000? Help fund this year’s Global Union
Last summer, Alverno College raised $15,000 from the public in order to keep its terrific Global Union festival alive, kicking, and free. Alverno’s corporate sponsors eventually matched that amount, and the two-day world-music fest went off without a hitch, drawing in six eclectic bands and a crowd of over 11,000. But while this year’s Global Union may already be scheduled for Sept. 17-18 in picturesque Humboldt Park, that doesn’t mean it couldn’t use your help.
Alverno’s David Ravel has begun soliciting donations for this year’s fest, hoping to raise another $15,000 for Global Union 2011. Ravel even promises “your gift will help make Humboldt Park become the red hot epicenter of the universe.” Considering the fest’s lineup—which includes the raucous Blitz The Ambassador—that boast might not be too far off.
So open up those pocketbooks, Milwaukee (people still use pocketbooks, right?), and toss a few bucks Global Union’s way. After all, there doesn’t appear to be any new band-related Kickstarters vying for your attention this week.
