Just Announced Buckwheat Zydeco at Turner Hall

Stanley Dural Jr., known to the world as Buckwheat Zydeco, is probably the world’s best-known purveyor of zydeco, the funky Louisiana Creole music from which he draws his stage name. Always a solid live draw for his peppy, accordion-rich tunes and slinky shuffle beats, Zydeco’s star was probably highest in the early ’90s when he was on major labels like Rounder and Island. He mounted something of a comeback with 2005’s well-received Jackpot!, released on his own Tomorrow label, but departed slightly from zydeco into a wide-roaming R&B sound on 2008’s Lay Your Burden Down. 2010’s Bayou Boogie is a return to form of sorts, touted as a “family-friendly dance album,” though his sound is crafted to get anyone in earshot dancing, regardless of age.

Zydeco is scheduled to make a stop at Milwaukee’s Turner Hall March 11. General admission tickets are $20, and go on sale Jan. 20 at noon.
