Daily Agenda Aug. 24: Robert Cray Band

A soulful blues man is here to liven up your Monday

Robert Cray has enjoyed more consistent commercial success than many other bluesmen, which has provoked a bit of a backlash from stodgy purists. Those detractors found even more to hate on his last studio album, 2005’s Twenty, but for everyone else, the album provides mellow, old-school soul-blues that recall the heyday of Stax Records as well as Memphis’ musical minister of choice, Al Green. Cray is less of a show-off on guitar these days, preferring to indulge his equally impressive vocals on the newly released This Time. Cray performs tonight at Pabst Theater.
