When The A.V. Club looked back on the year in music for 2009, we forgot to mention the biggest local music story of them all, which, of course, was Danny Gokey’s run on American Idol. As happy as we are for the success of Kings Go Forth and Jaill, neither of those bands caused the whole city to shut down last summer. Since then, Gokey has been laying low for the most part, but like a sleeping puma, he wasn’t going to stay down for long. Sure enough, Gokey is set to perform March 6 at Turner Hall. There are no tickets, but in order to get in you have to buy a copy of his new country music album My Best Days. Here’s a taste of his new single, “My Best Days Are Ahead Of Me,” which his press release describes as “a much-anticipated treat for fans who supported the Milwaukee native in his bid for the American Idol title.” (We’d just describe it as “corny.”)
