Dave & Buster’s opens Wauwatosa location, end of the world nigh

Amid all the stories this week about “modern rock” festivals, Ryan Braun eateries, and boxes of expired Jell-O is some truly terrifying news: the opening of a Wauwatosa Dave & Buster’s (2201 N. Mayfair Rd.). On Monday, WTMJ 4 breathlessly reported that while most folks support the opening of the adult oriented restaurant/bar/arcade, some residents—well, at least one resident—are concerned about "the wrong crowd" the modern day Gomorrah will attract. Cue lots of hand wringing and coded language.

The arrival of the national chain has been a point of controversy for some time. In late 2008, the Journal Sentinel reported plans to open the ‘Tosa D&B were shot down by the city’s Common Council; a week later, the proposal was overwhelmingly approved. A recent story in WauwatosaNow sings the franchise’s praises, but also brings up the dreaded “teens and young adults” that may make D&B their hangout of choice. And while the party line is that Dave & Buster’s is like a “Chuck E. Cheese for adults,” we prefer to think of it more as a “T.G.I. Friday’s for skee-ball and DDR enthusiasts.” So, the question remains: Will Dave & Busters reduce Wauwatosa to a smoking pile of rubble? We remained glued to local media for an answer.
