News Net Decibully, Solid Gold McDonald’s, and American Idol’s Naima Adedapo say goodbye

Decibully

More News Net

Since sifting through dull newspapers, hyperbolic blogs, and overflowing RSS feeds for meaningful news can be an arduous process, News Net catches and compiles both the amusing and the significant reports that were overlooked throughout the week.

• One of the most iconic Milwaukee bands of the ’00s, Decibully, will be going on a lengthy hiatus, says OnMilwaukee.com. The group is taking a break following this Saturday’s show at the Cactus Club.

• As we all know, nothing goes better together than the healing power of rock ’n’ roll and some delicious Chicken McNuggets. Sadly, this winning combination is now a thing of the past. According to OnMilwaukee.com, Greenfield’s Solid Gold McDonald’s (5040 S. 76th St.) will begin remodeling today. The location is swapping out its rock ’n’ roll memorabilia in favor of “modern lighting fixtures, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi.”

• Following a now-deeply ironic performance of Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing,” Milwaukee’s Naima Adedapo was voted off American Idol. The Journal Sentinel talked to Adedapo’s mother, who expressed dismay over the dismissal, and defended her daughter’s choice to sing the Elton John hit in a put-upon “reggae-inflected island accent.”

• Another iconic Milwaukee band, Die Kreuzen, will be inducted into the WAMI hall of fame, says OnMilwaukee.com. The noted ’80s hardcore group will be honored at the organization’s 2011 awards show, April 17 at Turner Hall. In other news: WAMI has a hall of fame?

Seizure Chicken talked to electronic musician Adopt A Highway about his background in classical music, the monthly MELT shows at Club Garibaldi, and the state of electronic music in Milwaukee.

• Last year saw the inaugural VERGE Music Festival descend upon Milwaukee’s Summerfest grounds, bringing with it the good (She & Him, Eagles Of Death Metal), the not-so-good (Weezer!), and the terrific local (Jaill, Juniper Tar, The Wildbirds, etc.) A date has yet to be set for VERGE 2011, though in a statement, the alt-music fest says that “due to the current $25 million renovation project to improve the south end of Henry Maier Festival Park, VERGE will now take place after Summerfest, later in the festival season, allowing us time to finish the construction project this spring and get pumped for our epic alternative music event.”
