Hear the new Lion for absolutely nothin' online

Accordion players don’t inspire the worshipful following that hotshot guitarists, reckless drummers, or even steady bassists get. But don’t take the nerdy image at face value. For every goofy-ass Weird Al there’s someone like Milwaukee singer-songwriter Margaret Stutt, who coaxed a haunting, lonely feeling out of her wheezy, broken-down squeeze box on Pezzettino’s 2008 debut, Because I Have No Control. The record is mostly just sad, but there’s an underlying creepiness to Stutt’s stripped-down sounds that suggests she’s the wrong woman to encounter in a dark alley.

Decider likes Stutt, and not just because she baked us brownies once. (Though she really did,  and that obviously helps.) Next month Stutt will celebrate the release of her sophomore effort Lion with a show at Shank Hall. In the meantime, you can check out the record (including the catchy “Movin’ On”) here. (Scroll to the bottom of the page.) For a preview of the preview, enjoy this live clip of Pezzettino performing inside the friendly confines of WMSE.
