Friday night: The Figgs at Linneman's
Wisconsin's favorite New York City power-poppers are back for a mini tour of the state
In spite of putting together a string of excellent power-pop albums—the most recent being 2006’s Follow Jean Through The Sea—and always delivering the goods live, The Figgs (playing tonight at Linneman's) stubbornly remain below the radar, failing to attract much love even from indie rock fetishists. Maybe that’s because the band has always been better at being really good than being fashionable. Here in Wisconsin, where music trends and flavors of the month come to die, the New York City band has long had an outsized following, drawing enthusiastic crowds and even acting as a primary influence on the state’s denim-clad retro rockers (including tonight's openers Beach Patrol and The Nice Outfit). So, it’s no surprise that The Figgs are playing seven official shows in the state—and a few underground basement gigs—in the next week. So, if you can’t make the Linneman’s show, you can probably catch The Figgs at a house party somewhere in Riverwest beforehand. Or you can check out this great clip of the band performing "Cheap Cassettes" at the Main Stage bar in Green Bay.
