Milwaukee's The Cranberry Show dropped a new mixtape this week.

More News Net

Since sifting through dull newspapers, hyperbolic blogs, and overflowing RSS feeds for meaningful news can be an arduous process, News Net catches and compiles both the amusing and the significant reports that were overlooked this week.

• We told you earlier this week about the New Year’s Eve concert The A.V. Club is sponsoring at Riverside Theater featuring The Hold Steady and Jaill. Also announced this week was a special edition of popular soul-tastic DJ night The Get Down at Turner Hall. Tickets are $10 and go on sale today at noon.

• After visiting town to shoot scenes for Transformers 3, Michael Bay was back in Milwaukee in August to film a Victoria’s Secret commercial at the Milwaukee Art Museum. And here it is!

• Remember the hubbub about Janet Zweig’s “Pedestrian Drama” public art project last year? Well, Zweig is now looking for “Milwaukee residents and performers of all ages, sizes, experience levels, and backgrounds” to appear in her “Pedestrian Drama” films. The roles are non-speaking and come with stipends. Auditions will take place Dec. 3-5 at UW-Milwaukee’s Mitchell Hall. For more information, send an e-mail here.

• Milwaukee artists keep on giving music away for free. This week, ambient indie-poppers Cedar AV released their debut record At Long Last, and Milwaukee rappers The Cranberry Show dropped Halloween Webtape, which collects songs left off of this year’s Sex And Pencil Shavings.

• Also announced this week is the return of Cinematic Titanic, the feature-length, movie-riffing MST3K spin-off that comes to Pabst Theater Feb. 18 and 19. We’re proud sponsors of the shows, tickets for which go on sale for $24.50 (or $40 for both shows) at noon Nov. 12.

• Just in case we haven’t already hyped the Smith Westerns/Reading Rainbow show Nov. 12 at Club Garibaldi enough, here’s a song from Smith Westerns’ forthcoming record.
