Girls is a San Francisco band with a compelling back-story—singer Christopher Owens grew up in the Children Of God, a scary cult that’s worth staying as far away from as possible—and a debut album that’s inspired as much by rock obsessives like Elvis Costello as it is by early rock itself: Buddy Holly, to be sure, but also early albums from acts like The Beach Boys and The Beatles. Girls hit the road this spring after the band's 2009 debut album (creatively titled Album) topped numerous critic's lists, and the tour includes a show April 11 at Pabst Theater with Dum Dum Girls. Tickets are $15 and go on sale at noon Friday. Stay tuned to A.V. Club Milwaukee for a chance to win free tickets in the weeks ahead.
