Decider streams the latest release by the Milwaukee alt-countryish rockers
Milwaukee band The Championship will celebrate the release of its new EP, Moving At The Speed Of Darkness, with a show Saturday at The Cactus Club. But before you buy the record you can hear it for free here on Decider. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and press play.
Coming after 2005’s Dance Casador! and last year’s Midnight Golden—which Decider picked as one of our favorite local releases of ’08—Moving At The Speed Of Darkness was recorded relatively quickly by the rootsy, alt-countryish rockers. Singer-songwriter Joe Crockett told Decider that the EP is meant to buy The Championship some time as it prepares to make its full-length, which he describes as a concept record.
“I felt these songs were good, but not for the style of record that I wanted to make,” Crockett told Decider. “So we came to the conclusion that we should record these songs for an EP.”
Crockett said the band wants to take its time on its third album, in part because it’s more ambitious than anything they’ve done before. That epic feel is definitely hinted at on Moving, which begins with a chorus of voices before launching into the arena-made modern rock of “The Sword.” Check out the rest of the record here:
