Just Announced Heartless Bastards at Turner Hall

Mississippi shack-blues outlet Fat Possum has cleaned some of the cobwebs and muck off its aging roster (recent signings include The Walkmen, Wavves, and Smith Westerns), but it still puts out acts with at least one foot in the swamp, like Austin-via-Cincinnati act Heartless Bastards. Much of the Bastards’ 12-bar bona fides come courtesy of the smoky howl of its frontwoman, Erika Wennerstrom, whose bellow stands just as tall as those of her Delta-reared labelmates. Like Fat Possum, Wennestrom hasn’t shied from diversifying her sound, and the band’s last two records have incorporated slivers of pop, folk, and even sparse, lazy orchestral arrangements.

In advance of their new disc, Arrow, Heartless Bastards will stop by Turner Hall Feb. 9, 2012. (Arrow is due to be released the following week.) General admission tickets are $15, and go on sale Dec. 2 at noon.
