Heidi Spencer to release Bella Union debut in March

Now that we’ve spent an appropriate amount of time gushing over our favorite Milwaukee albums of 2010, it’s time to start getting excited about the great Milwaukee albums coming out in 2011, including Under Streetlight Glow, the latest release from Heidi Spencer And The Rare Birds. The album is due out March 29 from Bella Union, the fine independent label known for working with Fleet Foxes, Midlake, and Beach House, among others.

As Spencer told The A.V. Club in an interview this summer, Under Streetlight Glow was recorded with Rare Birds drummer Bill Curtis at his Milwaukee recording space, ShipRec Studios. The new record is not sad, I don’t think,” she said at the time. “It’s totally not a sad record. I won’t say it’s happy. Like, the first one’s devastating, the second one’s pretty sad—this one’s a step up, you know?”

Spencer’s description seems to hold true for the song “Alibi,” a finger-snapping showcase for Spencer’s achingly vulnerable vocals. In the video below, look for cameos by various Milwaukeeans, including singer-songwriter Lisa Gatewood and the Brewcity Bruisers.
