Help the Brewcity Bruisers set a roller derby attendance record

No related

If you’ve ever said to yourself, “I’d really like to check out the Brewcity Bruisers down in Franklin, but it’s all the way in…Franklin,” you’re in luck! After notching four consecutive sellouts, the city’s roller derby team will hold its fourth championship bout downtown at the U.S. Cellular Arena at 7 p.m. Saturday. Not content to just move into bigger digs, the all-volunteer, skater-owned and -operated league is shooting to break the attendance record for modern-day roller derby set earlier this year in Seattle with a crowd of 5,703 for a Rat City Rollers bout. Now is a perfect chance to check out the most violent girls in town if you haven’t already. Here’s what you’ll see this Saturday:

Championship: Rushin’ Rollettes (3-1) vs. Shevil Knevils (3-1)
It’s been a storybook year for the perennial underdog Shevils, who benefited from adding veteran skaters (like former Maiden Grace Killy) and talented rookies (like jam-skating sensation Skittle, who in one season debuted on the All-Star team, was second on her team with 23 points per bout, and earned her very own cheering section). They’re sure to be the crowd favorites against the defending champion Rollettes, who once again dominated the competition on their way to the championship match. The team featured an astonishing season from jammer Rhoda Ruin, who set a league record last month with a staggering 82 points in one bout.

Grudge match: Maiden Milwaukee (2-2) vs. Crazy 8s (0-4)
Meanwhile, the Crazy 8s have taken the Shevils’ place as the league’s Detroit Lions by suffering through their first winless season, despite a solid rookie year from jammer Zo-Tay and the ongoing presence of league stars like Amazonian blocker Servin’ Justice, who was league leader in jammer assists with 16. The 8s will try to salvage a win in this grudge match against the Maidens, who keep on keepin’ on thanks to a balanced attack from jammers like Rejected Seoul (118 season points—third in the league) and rookies Rascal and Slayerah.
