With all the talk going around lately about how nobody books cool hip-hop shows in Milwaukee, it’s worth reporting when somebody actually goes out and books a cool hip-hop show in Milwaukee, like the March 5 gig scheduled for Chicago MC and Kanye West protege Kid Sister at Miramar Theatre. Kid Sister’s house-inspired Ultraviolet was definitely one of the better hip-hop records of 2009—our own Genevieve Koski said the “winking lyrics and charismatic flow elevate the album beyond a mere throwback”—and this show will give all you bellyachers out there a chance to put your money where your mouth is. (Look for an interview with Kid Sister on A.V. Club Milwaukee in a few weeks.)

Otherwise, the week’s big concert announcements lean heavily on the indie rock side. We already told you about the Girls show at Pabst Theater—which was reported first by AVC Milwaukee—but there have been a bunch of other announcements, including Sigur Ros’ Jonsi Birgisson April 26 at Pabst Theater, The Apples In Stereo May 3 at Turner Hall, and Frightened Rabbit May 9 at Pabst Theater. Tickets for all of these shows go on sale at noon Friday.
