It’s a tough time to be a Star Wars fan. Lingering icky feelings over three dubious prequels, Disney’s unexpected purchase of Lucasfilm, and dire Episode 7 rumors have made it all but impossible to simply channel your inner 8-year-old and enjoy the whiny, whiz-bang adventures of Luke Skywalker. The world of Star Wars collectibles is similarly troubled, as evidenced by a delightful FOX6 story that gives new meaning to the phrase “smugglers who drop their shipments at the first sign of an Imperial cruiser.” It seems that a 30-year-old Caledonia woman, Latoya Martin, is being accused of stealing nearly 140 Star Wars figurines from a neighbor’s storage locker. When an eagle-eyed apartment manager questioned Martin’s roommate about her sudden interest in all things Admiral Ackbar, the roommate told officers “Martin got the Star Wars figurines from a person at Game Stop. She later apparently changed her story saying she planned to sell them to Game Stop.”
Martin is currently being held in a Racine jail on a $500 signature bond. The unlikely heist, meanwhile, is valued at around $2,200, or $15 worth of store credit at your neighborhood Game Stop.
