In:Site wants your ideas for a public art project
The Park East Corridor is getting dressed up
Milwaukee probably has a keener interest in public art after Janet Zweig’s downtown project was shelved by the Common Council last week, which is good news for the artists working on another project right now. In:Site, a local organization dedicated to hooking up artists with funding and spaces to create temporary works of public art, is seeking public input on a project for the Park East Corridor. At an open meeting on Thursday, April 16, from 7-9 p.m., at Convent Hill (455 E Ogden Ave), seven artists involved in the project will ask, “What is the value of this land?” The group hopes for your thoughts, reactions, and stories about the Park East Corridor as it develops a proposal for the project. If you’re inclined to create, In:Site is also seeking artist applications for the project.
Because last week’s Janet Zweig public art uproar highlighted an apparent lapse in communication between the arty folks, the government, and the citizens of Milwaukee, Decider wants to make clear the following: In:Site appears to have its ducks in a row, having already discussed the project with staff from the Department of City Development, the Department of Public Works, the County Economic Development staff, the Milwaukee County Transit System, and the Housing Authority. After the Milwaukee Arts Board approves the final plan in May, there’s no stopping it.
In:Site has a growing list of temporary public arts projects behind it, including John Riepenhoff’s art vending machines and numerous neighborhood installations, so your ideas will be in good hands.
