Over the past decade or so, Iron Maiden’s tendency to plan concept tours around its back catalog has certified the band’s vitality as heavy metal’s hardest-working tour act. As if ignoring the release last year’s compilation From Fear To Eternity: The Best Of 1990-2010 (a “best of” album containing choice cuts from some of the band’s worst records), Iron Maiden is heading on the road with another historically themed tour, galloping to stadiums across North America.
Based on the 1988 concert movie filmed during the Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son tour, the Maiden England World Tour this year will see the band working through the bulk of that album’s tracks, “with many other surprises!” according to frontman Bruce Dickinson’s quotes in a release on the band’s Facebook page. The tour kicks off June 21 in Charlotte, North Carolina and ends Aug. 18 in Houston, Texas, with a headlining Summerfest gig at the Marcus Amphitheater July 4. Oh, and Alice Cooper will be there, too.
We’d try to act all snide and unimpressed about a string of Iron Maiden tour dates where the band will work through ’88-era Maiden material—but, in all honesty, we just can’t wait to play with madness and hear Dickinson rhyme “livin’ on a razor’s edge” with “balancin’ on a ledge.”
