Jessica McBride is apparently still working on that Chief Flynn piece, if you know what we mean

Back in the halcyon days of 2009, a plucky young journalist, university lecturer, and minor right-wing pundit named Jessica McBride wrote a glowing, 5,400-word profile on Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn for Milwaukee Magazine. The piece was incredibly well-received—so well-received, in fact, that McBride followed it up by doing something many serious, no-quotes-needed “journalists” do after filing a big story: she started sleeping with her subject. Flynn and McBride’s torrid love affair exploded in a firestorm of TMZ-like controversy, and led to public humiliation, public apologies, and tales of steamy nights at Brocach Irish Pub And Restaurant, of all places. (From an intercepted Flynn email: “Warm, no not warm, hot memories of beautiful moments…and visuals. I feel younger today than I did last night.”
But, as The Monkees once said, that was then and this is now. Flynn has moved on to bigger and better things, like defending himself against shabby Journal Sentinel “Watchdog Reports” and cutting out early on “public listening sessions.” McBride, meanwhile, followed up her freelance gig as Flynn’s biographer-with-benefits by landing a full-time job at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she teaches—we shit you not—journalism. Though the sins of the past are only a Google search away (sadly, McBride’s original Milwaukee Magazine story seems to have been scrubbed clean), both parties have moved on.
Or have they? (To be read in your best Keith Morrison voice.)
Both WTMJ and WISN are reporting that McBride’s husband, former Waukesha District Attorney Paul Bucher, recently sent an email to Flynn’s wife claiming McBride was still getting the scoop, so to speak, on the younger-than-he-was-last-night police chief. According to WISN:
McBride’s husband, former Waukesha District Attorney Paul Bucher, told 12 News he sent the letter to Flynn’s wife. Copies were received by both the mayor’s office and the Fire and Police Commission, which released it to WISN 12 News.
It begins: “I never thought I would be writing this to you, but I feel you have to know the type of person Ed Flynn is. He has continued his affair with Jessica McBride...”
In McBride and Flynn’s defense, Bucher has played the “You’re still schtupping my wife!” card before, and has refused to produce any hard evidence proving his accusations. (We do dig his Penthouse Letters-esque, “I never thought I would be writing this to you,” opening, however.) Flynn has declined to comment on the matter, at least for now. McBride, who is currently in the process of divorcing her husband, is also keeping mum. We can only assume she’s busy channelling her inner George Lucas and refining her original puff piece on Flynn: “adding new footage,” “inserting old footage,” and having “Greedo shoot first.”
