Kings Go Forth prep Kings Go Forth

The local funk band will release its self-titled debut CD Friday at Turner Hall

Kings Go Forth play a CD release show tomorrow at Turner Hall for its self-titled full-length album slated to be released by respected indie label Luaka Bop. The Milwaukee soul revivalists appear to have it made, but KGF’s leader Andy Noble told Decider that he feels the pressure that comes with making the transition from being a local band to a national, possibly very successful national act.

The pressure isn’t coming from the label, but himself. “I have been sleeping horribly and suffer from constant physical anxiety,” Noble admitted. “It’s me realizing what a huge monster we have created and sometimes wondering if I want or need all the responsibility.” Crippling anxiety aside, Noble reports that it’s full steam ahead in the Kings Go Forth camp with Luaka Bop. Though a deal hasn’t been officially inked yet, the label “has a pretty good grasp of what we are and what we aren't,” he said.

“They understand that many guys in the group have serious career/family commitments that will probably prevent us from being a touring machine. They definitely get the basement, blown-out recorded sound we go for. The fact of the matter is that KGF is going to sell records and what label wouldn't like and embrace that?”

Kings Go Forth “it is not just a collection of singles” the band has already released, Noble added, and touches on a variety of genres, including reggae, garage rock, and one song that’s been described as an “African power ballad.”

Those who see KGF tomorrow night at Turner Hall will receive a free download coupon from Luaka Bop for Kings Go Forth in addition to a coupon for a discount on the physical album when it is available, which will likely be later this summer.
