A highly touted video series was unveiled last year at the 2012 Milwaukee Film Festival: DearMKE. The brainchild of VISIT Milwaukee and film producer Jack Turner, the ongoing series aims to give local filmmakers a chance to tell “the story of our city” through short YouTube videos and other media. The results so far—a rousing overview of Milwaukee, an inside look at the Riverwest 24 bike race, a profile of artist Reginald Baylor—have been impressive, and far better than the airless, cut-and-paste tourism promos Milwaukee so often gets stuck with. The latest entry in the series is another winner, and finds ever-busy film director Sam Macon taking a strangely heartwarming and emotional tour of the Harley-Davidson Museum.
“All In The Family” features Willie G. Davidson—grandson of Harley co-founder William Davidson—and Bill Davidson—son of Willie—giving viewers an inside look at their family’s iconic company. There’s plenty of old family photos and Super 8 film to tug on your heartstrings, and there’s even a quick tour of the museum’s private collection, which, the video tells us, is “rarely seen by the public eye.” Top it off with music from Collections Of Colonies Of Bees’ Chris Rosenau, and you have local pride done right.
