Even as scads of music blogs start up every day, Illinois-based Daytrotter.com stands out as a true original. Founded more than four years ago by Sean Moeller, a former music and sports newspaper reporter, Daytrotter regularly posts exclusive live-in-the-studio sessions recorded by indie rock artists like Death Cab For CutieSpoonOf Montreal, and Grizzly Bear, who swing by the site’s studio in nearby Rock Island, Ill. when they have an afternoon to kill between Midwest tour stops.

Post-rock heroes Collections Of Colonies Of Bees recently recorded their first Daytrotter session, performing four brand-new songs, “G,” “E,” “B,” and “C.” The accompanying write-up by Moeller is once again noteworthy, noting that the “humming of these parts, these chemicals mixing and sloshing around with one another builds until there are those magical moments of unshakable catharsis, when the bonfire has reached its maximum height and its hottest heat. It’s only then that the gardeners stop stomping up and down on the soil, demanding that the trees get leafier, that the winding roads get bendier, and that the skies get bluer, faster.”

Stream or download the session here. (Free registration required.)
