Musicians handing out CD-Rs in bars or on street corners is quite possibly the worst thing ever, but every now and then a diamond emerges from the DIY street team rough. The self-titled debut EP from Milwaukee’s Young Holidays is one of those rare exceptions. Written, performed, recorded, mixed, and hand-distributed by 22-year-old Appleton transplant Max Holiday, the four-song album is a terrific collection of bubblegum garage-rock that belies the artist’s young age and relative inexperience. (Holiday tells us the EP is his “first serious venture into music, aside from one-off shows with high school bands, etc.”)

Holiday has been handing out copies of the EP at East Side bars and on the street (it’s also available online, of course), and plans to release another by the end of the year. No live shows are scheduled as of yet, but we’ll be the first to give a shout-out when the name “Young Holidays” shows up in our calendar listings.
