A young singer-songwriter recalls John Prine during this performance from last Halloween
On Thursday, WMSE will celebrate the release of Live At WMSE Vol. 10 with a special listening party and concert at Miramar Theater sponsored by Decider. This week we've been previewing tracks from the record via video clips taken of the in-studio performances. Today, we're checking out a track by buzzing Chicago singer-songwriter Joe Pug, who was just named to the lineup at this summer's Lollapalooza festival.
WMSE promotions director Ryan Schleicher discovered Pug during the station's fall 2008 pledge drive, when he was playing a show at Shank Hall. "I checked him out online and immediately fell in love with Pug’s John Prine-like songwriting," he said. Within a half hour, he had Pug booked for an in-studio performance on the Chicken Shack show with Johnny Z.
