As we learned from those fellas who raised money to blow up a car for a film we’re probably never going to see, Milwaukee has been ramping up its efforts to capture the mantle of being the Midwest’s resourceful, scrappy epicenter of film. We may not have budgets, but we’ve got the ideas—many of them weird. Donating money to get yourself killed by Danny Trejo in a movie? You can pat Cream City on the back for that one. A fun little documentary about our most reprehensible serial killer? Hell yeah, Milwaukee. Cucaranchula? Sure, whatever.
So what do we have this time? A potential replacement for Ryan Gosling now that he’s on a hiatus? Oh, it looks like we’ve got that, all right: Milwaukee’s own Mark Borchardt.
Uploaded to YouTube nearly one year ago by John Adam Brickley, the time has finally arrived for the video “Mark Borchardt in Drive” to be taken seriously as a template for future Ryan Gosling-less films. Asking the question, “Ever wonder what Drive would be like if Mark Borchardt from American Movie replaced Ryan Gosling?” in the video description, “Mark Borchardt in Drive” indeed shows what Drive would be like if Mark Borchardt from American Movie replaced Ryan Gosling. Let’s now watch one of Milwaukee’s finest do what he does best besides calling Morocco at 2 a.m.: drive.
