Local Newswire Mayor Barrett officially declares April 14 “Milwaukee Day”

In a move that recalls last year’s infamous “Bon Iver Day,” Mayor Tom Barrett has officially declared April 14 (4/14) “Milwaukee Day.” We’ve covered the upcoming holiday extensively already, so we’ll just go ahead and run Barrett’s proclamation, which may or may not include the term “all-ages skateboard jam”:

WHEREAS the date of April 14th corresponds with the area code of the great City of Milwaukee, and

WHEREAS the members of the Milwaukee community are deserving of a day designated to recognize their collective contribution to the culture, economy, and vibrancy of the city, and

WHEREAS a group of individuals known as Milwaukee Day, LLC, have set out to spotlight all of the positive, creative, and dynamic energy that makes our city and its heritage truly unique, with an annual event, and

WHEREAS the organizers of Milwaukee Day will continue to work to promote the city every day, but especially every April 14th, to advance the work of our citizens and ex-pats, both unsung and world-renowned, and

WHEREAS events ranging from live music to a park clean-up, and from a film-festivals to an all-ages skateboard jam, have been organized with the mission of presenting to a mass audience the finest our city has to offer

RESOLVED, That the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee herewith recognizes April 14, 2012 as Milwaukee Day; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED that all members of the 414 area code to join together in celebrating our rich history, our exciting present, and our bright future with the same enthusiasm which has made Milwaukee such an important place on the map in the state, the country, and the world.
