Milwaukee Magazine issues a response to “Covergate”
The photographer used a photo from a 2-year-old MKE cover shoot
Three days after Decider reported that Milwaukee Magazine inadvertently copied an old MKE cover for its latest issue, the local publication acknowledged the mistake on its website Monday. Under the headline “Cover Controversy”—perhaps unwisely posted under a “Subscribe now!” link—the brief story reiterates what editor Bruce Murphy told us on Friday: Milwaukee Magazine had no idea it was ripping off the MKE cover, and the blame for this lies with freelance photographer Christopher Bluhm, who shot the earlier cover and used a similar photo from the same photo session without informing his current patron. Bluhm backs this up in a comment left last night with the Decider story. “I feel bad Milwaukee Magazine is getting criticized for my error. Milwaukee Magazine didn’t rip anything off,” he writes. “I screwed up.”
