Attention makers of smelly-fish dresses and cigarette-butt skirts: It’s time to torture your models again! After several years off, the Milwaukee Wearable Sculpture Fashion Show is making a triumphant return January 15 at MAM After Dark. Artists and designers of impractical garb are invited to submit up to three ideas by 9 p.m. December 4. Send along a work in process, completed pieces, drawings or sketches with detailed descriptions, photos, fabrics, materials, and anything else that will get your idea across for consideration. This year’s theme is Green—as in environmentally friendly—which meshes with the newly installed Green Furniture Design exhibition at MAM.
Originally the centerpiece of the now-defunct Milwaukee Degenerative Arts Weekend, the fashion show has featured not only fish and cigarette butt dresses, but clothing made from bark, wire, chocolate, car parts, glass, mirrors, and lots of other crazy stuff. So, as Project Runway's Tim Gunn would say, start sketching, designers, and make it work! Go, go, go!
