Milwaukee producer LMNtlyst can’t keep his hands off of indie rock. Earlier this year he worked with Milwaukee expatriate/accordion-donning chanteuse Pezzettino on her album Lub Dub, and now he’s re-emerged with a nifty remix of Phoenix’s much-loved 2009 record Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Dubbing his creation Wolfgang Amadeus Gruvis, LMNtlyst takes the adorable French rockers in all kinds of crazy directions, perhaps most radically on “Lasso,” which turns one of the original record’s most straightforward pop-rockers into a dub-inflected jazz number. Some of the remixes work better than others (the sluggish redux of “Fences” just makes the Phoenix version seem even more seductively fluffy), but Wolfgang Amadeus Gruvis is always interesting and occasionally mind-blowing.
