Milwaukee's Record Store Day activities

What's going on at your friendly neighborhood old-timey music store on Saturday

Of all the imaginary holidays clogging the calendar, one of Decider’s favorites is Record Store Day, which began two years ago “as a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally,” according to its official website. We’re guessing that the number of indie record stores has probably dipped below 700 by now; here in Milwaukee, the only shops still standing are Rush-Mor and two Exclusive Company locations. (That’s not counting used record stores and anyplace else that doesn’t sell new releases.) Decider will be there with bells on this Saturday for local Record Store Day celebrations. Here’s what’s going on locally. (For a list of exclusive Record Store Day releases, go here.)

1. The Exclusive Company on Farwell will have music going on all day. The lineup includes:

3. Rather than host a bunch of bands in the store, Dan Duchaine of Rush-Mor Records is encouraging people to do a Bay View bar hop that starts at 1 p.m. and will go to Frank’s Power Plant, Puddler’s Hall, Burnhearts, and Club Garibaldi. Highlights will include a 5 p.m. performance by Wereworm back at Rush-Mor, and an 8 p.m. show by Rusty Ps at Club Garibaldi.
