Milwaukee's The New Loud drops new EP
The synth-pop band gets aggressive on Can't Stop Not Knowing

It’s no surprise that Milwaukee synth-pop band The New Loud has had its frothy songs played at Abercrombie And Fitch and Holister Co. stores, but on its new EP, Can’t Stop Not Knowing, the crafty trio takes things in a more aggressive direction. “Don’t Dance” is punctuated by stabs of screechy keyboards and sharp shifts in tempo that turn the song’s title into a warning. A dramatic overhaul of Radiohead’s “2+2=5” is similarly adventurous, though the relatively straightforward “Heaven” delivers a dependably soaring pop-rock high.
The New Loud will celebrate the release of Can’t Stop Not Knowing with a show Saturday at Cactus Club. In the meantime, check out this video for “Don’t Dance,” which was filmed here in town at Cactus Club and the Humphrey Scottish Rite Masonic Center.
