Movie reviews: The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Blind Side, Precious

One out of three ain't bad for this week's new cinema releases

No related

At the risk of starting a firestorm in our comments section, A.V. Club writer Genevieve Koski wasn’t kind to this week’s sure-to-be-blockbuster release The Twilight Saga: New Moon, saying it “suffers from a dearth of accompanying tension and excitement, thanks to the increasingly tedious relationship at its center,” in her C- review. (Yes, Koski is referring to totes hot Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.) But that’s practically a rave compared to what Scott Tobias has to say about the shitty-looking Sandra Bullock sports movie The Blind Side, which takes the old “black athlete is helped by saintly white person” sports movie to a new, dire low, according to his D review.

You’re much better off checking out Precious, which returns to Milwaukee after wowing audiences at the Milwaukee Film Festival in October. Noel Murray says the movie rises and falls on its performances in his B review: “If not for its stars, this movie would be fairly mundane, but those who believe in the power of great acting to transform a film will want to see what happens to Precious.”
